i2pnetwork issues

Post by Guest »

I can't even reach Ramble.i2p (4/23/24). It looks like a flooding with crap routers problem. Anybody experiences the same thing? The only Warning I get is:
Apr 22, 2024, 10:44:09 AM WARN [tion tunnels] 2ptunnel.TunnelControllerGroup: Migrated tunnel configurations to /home/user/.i2p/i2ptunnel.config.d from /home/user/.i2p/i2ptunnel.config

Anyway, I was trying to add to the announcement for the New BitChan Software on Ramble:

Maybe a screenshot of the page... This is getting to be a pain!

Thanks... I was able to make the posting. i2pd is still in trouble for the time being. My i2pd routers are mostly to check the "general network weather".

yes there's an attack. large amount of new routers came online recently. java routers are handling this better than i2pd.

additional info:
http://zzz.i2p/topics/3632-network-weather-update
http://notbob.i2p/cgi-bin/blog.cgi?page=609
http://stats.i2p/cgi-bin/total_routers_week.cgi

notbob/zzz sum it up pretty well, lots of fake clone routers, remember seeing a bunch of new ones in china last week. update router to newest version. in java router set sybil scan to 60min and lower the threatpoints. notbob suggests 15, mine are doing good at 25. as i understand this attack is spoofing floodfill routers.

lowering the threshold comes at a cost though which is why i cut the difference at 25, java routers are banning clones as well as legitimate routers this way. original is saying this is resulting in a lot of real i2pd routers being banned from java routers, so this "bad behavior" of java routers is making the attack worse? Original's patch notbob mentions can be found here https://github.com/PurpleI2P/i2pd/commi ... 24d17bbf6e

that's all i know at the moment, the fluffy math i did in viewtopic.php?t=115 is my reasoning behind upping my hops to 4 at least until more is known.

80% of my routers are currently Nix(OS) Java with different variations. As you can see from the message those routers were aware 2 days before the bla...bla...bla.

I don't know how aware you are of the extinct Taxes Paid (anonymous) exchanges which used p2p, but those software developers used to be paid 10-20K USD a week. 3 month ON with 3 month OFF (shoulder season ON, that is when markets operate) . Sure the software was regulated to comply with exchanges rules etc... I know this is Apple to Oranges comparison but it is only so much you can do in the pay range i2p is offering. Higher pay helps with corruption too. Anybody that tells you that this is a part time gig doesn't know what they are talking about.

"InvisibleNet has formed the Invisible Internet Project (I2P) to support the efforts of those trying to build a more free society by offering them an uncensorable, anonymous, and secure communication system. … The goal is to be able to operate successfully in arbitrarily hostile environments – even when an organization with unlimited financial and political resources attacks it."

Yes, my dear unknown friends, the above quote is indeed the objective of the project as defined when it was founded. Let us briefly note that I2P has now been in existence for 21 years. The core developers are working full-time on the so-called security software for the purpose of freedom of expression (whoever wants to believe this nonsense). And the good thing is that if the illegal misuse of the software becomes too high, be it through common gang crime or tax evasion, the plug can be pulled at any time from the outside.

it's an endless game of cat and mouse, all networks have this flaw. and the more visible and easily accessible the network is, the more vulnerable it becomes. it's hard to discount what a determined adversary with deep pockets can do, the best you can hope for in that case is to make large scale attacks expensive or otherwise not worth the time. think it's safe to assume the cost basis for mounting attacks against i2p is decreasing.
